what are some ideas for my comparative essay between Hamlet and The Catcher in the Rye

Interesting question - & yes it could be a lengthy paper. Both lost someone important to them in their lives. Hamlet is father & Holden is brother. Neither one seems to really have anyone to discuss their feelings with openly. Hamlet tries to talk to his mother, but the murder of Polonius kind of gets in the way. He was not really succeeding anyway. He does have a little better luck with Horatio, his only real friend. Holden does not have a friend so he ends up picking up a woman & talking to her all night. He has a little more success. She does listen to him. Despite their age difference, Hamlet is very immature (he is 30 & still in college).

If u had to boil this down to three paragraphs, I would make it 1) Who they lost in their lives & how. 2) How they reacted to the death & what effect it is having on their lives & 3) Who did they try to go to for help.

It could be a LONG 3 paragraphs.

That is a topic that takes more than three paragraphs. How are the protagonists similar/ dissimilar in their views of death. do their views change or remain the same throughout? How do the authors treat the subject- is it the same for every character? Hope that gets you thinking
